John E. Muncey, 75, of Medina, Ohio died unexpectedly on Thursday, September 7, 2023. Preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Mary Muncey.
Survived by his wife of 47 years, Peggy. Daughters Beth Bugner (Bob Pokorny), children Zachary, Andrew, and Leah of Medina. Molly (Clint) Conger and their children Simon and Lucy of Norton. Brother Tom Muncey and Aunt Rose Massic. Sister-in-law, Nancy Illitch (Alex), Brother-in-law Tim Mullins (Sandra), nieces Sara Velie (Luke), Erin LaMonica (Joe), Michael (Alli), Alex, cousins, and countless friends.
John attended St. Joe’s/IHM in Cuyahoga Falls, Archbishop Hoban High School, and Kent State University. He proudly served 35 + years as an educator in the Akron Public Schools. He coached sports for many years in the Akron community. He enjoyed winters in his happy place, Sarasota, Florida. During the summers he has been a dedicated employee at Westfield Golf Course. An avid golfer, runner/walker, and race volunteer, and his most important role as coach and dedicated fan of his daughters and now his grandchildren at each and every sporting event.
He was a very caring educator and enjoyed hearing from past students and seeing them in the community. John never met a stranger and would do anything for anyone. If John knew you, he cared for you and would never forget your name.
He was the very best husband, a fantastic father, and a loving grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Carlson Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 3477 Medina Rd. (Corner of Route 18 & River Styx) Medina, Ohio from 4pm to 8pm and on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 from 10am to 11am with a memorial service to follow at 11am with Deacon John Amedeo officiating.
