Argeo (Jay, A. Jay,) Possavino, age 91, passed away peacefully in the company of his family in Medina, OH on Saturday, April 21, 2018. He went to be with the Lord Jesus and be reunited with the love of his life, Eleanor June. Jay was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Born May 13, 1926 in Bruno, Italy, in the Piedmont wine country, Argeo was the first-born son to Giuseppe Possavino and Savina Leone. The family immigrated to the U.S. when he was an infant.
Argeo attended the U.S. Maritime Academy at the historic Fort Schuyler in NYC where he studied engineering and traveled extensively aboard the Empire State ship. He finished his engineering degree at NYU followed by an MBA. He participated in sports and was the captain of both the baseball and basketball teams while attending school. Argeo continued lifelong friendships with classmates from Fort Schuyler.
Argeo had a lifetime career as an executive with the General Electric Company. His career took him to reside in New Britain, Connecticut, Yonkers, New York and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He relocated to Ohio after the loss of his beloved wife.
After retirement he volunteered as a hospital business consultant and college educator. He was active into his 90’s golfing, swimming, tennis, bocce ball and bowling. “Jay” cherished vacations with family at the New Jersey Shore, Outer Banks., Maine, Michigan and Wisconsin. Argeo loved all water activities and playing with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. In celebration of his 90th birthday he relished going to Punta Cana with entire family and where he showed up all the young people with the longest body wave surfing of any. Jay also had a lifelong passion for dancing. He could cut a rug with his wife, Eleanor that could have given Fred Astaire a run for his money.
Argeo married Eleanor June Wolf (April 16, 1950) daughter of Carl (Charles) August Wolf and Marie (Mary) Fodor. They had (5) children: Christine, Jay Charles (Susanne), Anne (Radvansky), Nori, and Catherine; proud grandfather of (11): Lisa Possavino (Colvin), Kristin Possavino (Fitzgerald), Amy Possavino (Root), Justin Possavino, Lauren Radvansky (Stieritz), John Radvansky, Michelle Radvansky, Julie Radvansky (Keller), Steven Radvansky, Madeline Jelilian and Alexander Jelilian; great-grandchildren (7): Argeo Alexander Possavino, Noah Young, Eleanor Young, Maximus Haley, Izabella Haley, Sam Keller and Brielle Keller, Hudson Root and Gianna Root; brother, Joseph Francis Possavino (Anna); nieces and nephews include (4): Joseph Possavino, Eva Possavino (Puorro), Liz Possavino (Labriola) and Regina Possavino (Serai).
Jay was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eleanor; and daughter, Christine.
While family mourns his loss, they also celebrate the full and beautiful life that he lived. Argeo desired to live to 100 as his mother (Nonna), but she must have called him home. The “twinkle” in his eyes and the “quick twinkle toe dancing footwork” will be missed.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 4th at 11:00 AM at St. Colette Catholic Church, 330 W. 130th Street, Brunswick, OH. A celebration of life reunion of family will take place in New York at a future date.
