Alice Koudela-Rudolph, 66, passed away on July 23, 2020 while surrounded by her loving family. Alice was born on March 17, 1954 to her parents Frank and Ruth Koudela. Alice was always proud of her St. Patrick’s Day birthday, as she frequently said that “everyone gets to celebrate on my birthday!”
Alice attended Baldwin Wallace University and the University of Michigan to start her career as a music educator. She lovingly taught middle school band, orchestra, and jazz band at Albion Middle School in Strongsville, Ohio for 37 years and made an impact on countless students that she had the opportunity to teach. She also taught as an adjunct professor at Baldwin Wallace University and previously conducted the New Horizons Bands for several semesters at BW. Alice also proudly directed the Medina County Fair Honors Bands each summer. An avid clarinetist, Alice played with the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra, the Sounds of Sousa Band, the Strongsville and Medina Community Bands, and the Parma Symphony Orchestra. Alice’s family is extremely proud of her impact as a musician and educator, and they know that she has reached many hearts through her love of music.
Family was the most important part of Alice’s life. She adored spending time with her children Nathan, Corey, and Jesse and her grandson Tanner. Walks in neighborhood parks, hot air balloon launches, and watching her bird feeders from the front porch of the family home were some of Alice’s favorite activities with her family. Alice also loved reading while enjoying a hot cup of tea in her living room chair, bundled up in her favorite afghan. One of her favorite places to spend time was the beach, where Alice and her family spent many family vacations.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Ruth Koudela and is survived by her brother Thomas Koudela, children Nathan, Corey, and Jesse, and beloved grandson Tanner.
Calling hours for Alice will be held Saturday, August 8, 2020 from 1:00PM to 3:00PM at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 3477 Medina Road, Medina, OH 44256. A private family service and memorial stone dedication for Alice will take place at a later date near the resting place of her parents.
