Alvan “Al” Nathan Rose, 75, of Brunswick, OH passed away Tuesday May 31, 2016 at Fairview Hospital in Cleveland after a battle with skin cancer. He was born July 8, 1940 to the late Harriett and Donald Rose.
He went to the Naval Academy in Annapolis and served two tours of duty in the U.S. Navy with a final ranking of Lieutenant Commander. He completed his first tour on the Light Cruiser USS Little Rock. He then volunteered to be a part of an elite Special Forces unit known as the UDT (the predecessor to the Navy SEALs). He became a decorated war veteran receiving the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and other awards during his years of active duty. Following his service, he worked in the steel industry in sales while owning and operating his own chocolate company. He often shared his wonderful chocolates with his appreciative family and friends.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who spent most of his life acting as a caregiver showing compassion for others. All that knew him appreciated his kindness and friendly demeanor while acting as an inspiration to many.
He enjoyed classic cars, showing off his 55 Buick, relaxing by the pool, The Indy 500, rooting on his grandchildren, and volunteering for the Brunswick HS Band for the past 35 years.
He is survived by his loving daughter Deborah, son-in-law Brian, and his grandchildren, Jacob and Amanda.
He is preceded in death by his parents Harriett & Donald Rose and his wife Barbara.
Friends may join the family for visitation on Thursday, June 2, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 1642 Pearl Road, (1/2 mile south of Route 303) Brunswick, OH 44212. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 3, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. There will be a visitation one hour prior at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at Hope Memorial Gardens in Hinckley, Ohio.
