Benjamin H. Heverly, age 86, of Brunswick, passed away on February 25, 2020. He was born on April 5, 1933, in Utahville, PA, to the late Frederick and Florence Heverly.
Ben was one of 11 children and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Growing up in Coalport, PA, he had an active part on the family farm and graduated from B.C.I. High School in 1951. He enlisted in the Air Force shortly thereafter, training in Oregon and subsequently maintained engines on bombers in Newfoundland and Greenland. He spent his working years at Fisher Body (division of General Motors), on the assembly line for 7 years and the remainder as a supervisor.
Living in Lyndhurst, OH, he was an active member of the Masons, and was Lodge Master in 1982-83. Ben was married to Desa from 1987 until her passing in 2011, living in Spring Hill, FL and returning to Brunswick. Ben was much loved for his colorful personality and riotous sense of humor. His favorite time of the year was fall. He enjoyed hunting with his brother and nephews and taking other vacations and trips with his family.
Ben had a big heart. He always had time for everyone and will be greatly missed by all.
He will be dearly missed by his stepson, Dennis (Polly) Strank; grandson, Michael Strank; siblings, Louise (Sam) Possamato, George (Margaret), Ruth Zakutney, Ray (Mary Kay); and 23 treasured nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Desa (née Zakula); grandson, Eric; siblings, Willis, Iri, Nona Pearl Rutter, Miriam Meraglio, Ethel Heverly, and Florence Heverly.
Friends may join the family for visitation on Saturday, February 29, 2020, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 1642 Pearl Road, (1/2 mile south of Route 303) Brunswick, OH 44212. A Funeral Service for Benjamin will follow at 1:00 PM. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville, OH.
