Betty J. Gonczy, 86, of Mantua, passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014 at her residence. She was born June 23, 1927 in Mantua, Ohio to Charles and Hazel (Springer) McCoy.
Betty was a Rosie the Riveter in WW II. She in the past, bowled for over 50 years, liked to reupholster furniture, write poems, play cards and enjoyed visits to The Mountaineer. She worked at Fashion Two Twenty, Stouffer’s and G.E. in Ravenna for 10 years, where she retired back to being a homemaker. Betty and Gabe, the love of her life, enjoyed holding hands and going for afternoon rides around the countryside. They were “Best Friends.” Betty loved having company and always had a joke to share. She had devoted family and friends that were with her till the end and she quietly passed in her home that Gabe and her lived and built together.
Betty is survived by her loving daughters, Sandy (Lee) Kothera of Hiram, Karen Teter of Mantua and Vicki (Sid) Hunt of McCormick, SC; nine grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gabor; brothers, Harlan, Dick and Jim; sister, Virginia; and a great-grandson, Michael. She is very sadly missed!
Calling hours are 6-8 PM on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231. Funeral Services will be at 11 AM on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 with Rev. Chad Delaney officiating. Betty will be laid to rest beside her husband at Westlawn Cemetery, Mantua, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mantua Center Christian Church 4118 St. Rt. 82, Mantua, OH 44255.
