Charlie Otto Bayer, 71, passed away in the early hours of the morning on Thursday, March 22, 2018. He was born April 3rd, 1946 the eldest of 5 siblings. Charlie grew up in Kingston, PA, moved to Port Jervis, NY, where he competitively wrestled, played football and earned himself a scholarship to attend Rutgers University.
After serving in the United States Army overseas, he returned to the US and moved to Ohio with Port Jervis native, Tracy (nee Faller), to start and raise their young family.
Charlie was known for his perseverance and intellect. His career began with an entry level position at JC Penney, and he continued his way up the ladder, ultimately serving as the President and CEO of VSM Sewing, Inc. before retiring in 2009 and moving on to become a Chairman for Vistage International, a CEO Private Advisory Board.
He was a loving and truly fun father and grandfather to three children and four grandchildren. Charlie was always the first to jump in the ocean at the beach, the winner of every silly game he created, and was truly the life of any party. His wit and intelligence were captivating, and his ability to connect with a person from any walk of life was inspiring to witness.
He is survived by his three daughters, Julie, Emily (King), and Molly and their families, and their mother, Tracy; his brother, Tom, his sister Sheila (Moore) and his partner, Laurie Muniak and her family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Agnes (nee McGoey); siblings, Dennis and Mary-Lou.
Friends may join the family for calling hours Monday, March 26th, 2018 from 2-5pm, followed by services at 5pm at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 3477 Medina Road, Medina, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Charlie’s name to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Donor Services, PO Box 98018, Washington DC 20090-8018.
Dad, we weren’t ready for you to go, but we were so lucky to have had you for as long as we did. Thank you for everything you’ve done for us as a father, mentor, and friend. We love you so much.
