Charles D. Howard "Dave", age 73, of Brunswick, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, October 25, 2021. He was born on March 8, 1948, in Starrit, WV to Elmer and Lillian Juanita (Moore) Howard. Dave moved to Ohio when he was young, growing up in Brookpark.
Dave proudly served in the Army Airborne Division. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran who received many honors including, The Purple Heart, Silver Star, and Bronze Star. In the past he was a member of different VFWs and Eagles Clubs. All his life Dave had a passion for fishing. He enjoyed watching wrestling and was an avid fan of all the Cleveland sports teams.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by the love of his life, Wilma "Tiny" (Booth) Howard; his second wife, Diane Kafel; step daughter Daina Kafel; sister, Rosie Crites; and brother-in-law, Delmis Crites.
Dave will be deeply missed by his children, Tina Smith, Dreama (Hermon Jr.) Toney, Loretta (Mike) Kabat, James (Tammy) Smith, and Angela (Rossi) Nagy; grandchildren, Charlene Smith, Ronald Anderson, Carol (Joe) Smith, Hermon Toney III, Rachel Frederick, Melissa-Ann Smith, Eric (Tracy) Anderson, Hope (Kenny) Murphy, Priscilla Frederick, and David Guerra; great grandchildren, Johnathon, Shiann, Alexis, Cody, Callie, Hayden, Alexander, Joshua, Angelina, Andrew, Jeremiah, Jasmine, Dominic, KJ, and Josette; nephews, Randy and Ronnie Crites; niece, Dee (Mike) Frank; and Reese "Princess", his faithful 4-legged companion.
Dave was a Dad, Step-Father, Grandpa, Papal, Great Grandfather, Uncle, and friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all.
Upon Dave's request cremation has been chosen. Friends may join the family for a Memorial Visitation on Saturday, October 30, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 1642 Pearl Rd (1/2 mile south of route 303), Brunswick. A Memorial Service will follow visitation at 5:00 p.m.
