Charles “Charlie” VanSteenberg, 75, of Freedom Township, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024. He was born August 30, 1948 in Ravenna, to the late Lee and Laura VanSteenberg.
He met and married Dina Summers of Orma, West Virginia, to whom he was married to for 56 years, and raised 4 children together. Charlie worked on the family farm when he was younger and later went to work on the railroad. He then started and ran his own logging business. Charlie eventually retired from Freedom Township as Road Supervisor after 30 years of service. He enjoyed going fishing, hunting, and watching his favorite sports teams: Cleveland Browns, Indians, and Cavaliers. Charlie loved going on long drives with his dog, Lady. He also loved going to watch his grandkids at their sporting events, never missing a game.
Charlie will be deeply missed by his children, Terry (Tina) VanSteenberg, of Windham, Teslie (Bill) Tanner, of Ravenna, and Tony (Karen) VanSteenberg, of Windham; grandchildren, Justin, Megan, Ashton, David, Dylan, Tara, Alexis, and Jason; great-grandchildren; Tyler, Harleigh, Hayden, Holton, Hunter, Hudson, Kinsley, and Lucas; siblings; Virginia Curfman and Francis Beckett as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dina VanSteenberg; daughter, Tammy Bortz; sister, Clara Bachus, and brothers, William VanSteenberg, Richard VanSteenberg, Raymond VanSteenberg.
