Corine Lois “Corky” (Flowers) Cook, of Wadsworth, OH, died September 26, 2023, at the age of 94, following a brief illness. Corky was born and raised in Parma, Ohio, where she attended a Baptist church and Sunday School.
She and her husband, Charles Clifford Cook Jr. (preceded in death 2008) began their married life in Mansfield, OH in 1949, where they lived for 20 years. The family then moved to Brecksville (20 years), with their final home in Wadsworth, OH. Corky embodied patience, faith, wit and grace. Along with her husband, she guided the family and gave them a compass—an internalized North Star—on how to live morally and compassionately. Corky spent about a decade in real estate before moving to Wadsworth. Her passions included bridge, golf, and later in life, travel, genealogy and most of all family. She painstakingly compiled a complete history of her mother’s family dating back to the 1600’s in America. Days before Corky’s death, she recalled her favorite hymn, “He Leadeth Me … And when my task on earth is done … death’s cold wave I will not flee…since God through Jordan leadeth me.”
Corky will be deeply missed by her children, Craig Cook of Medina OH, Carol (Robert) Pettay of Geneva, IL, Christopher (Patti) Cook of Brunswick Hills, OH, Cliff “Chip” (Andrea) Cook, III of Shaker Heights, OH; grandchildren, Douglas Pettay, Andrea (Michael) Pilcher, Clara Cook; great granddaughter, Elena Pilcher, and a beloved sister-in-law and traveling companion, Barbara Gallentine of Ocala, FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers of both Hospice of the Western Reserve in Medina and Brookdale Medina South Senior Living. Private graveside services at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 5075 Windfall Road, Medina, OH 44256.
