CRAIG LAWRENCE MOSER

May 22, 1946 — July 25, 2012

Craig Lawrence Moser, 66, of Garrettsville, passed away on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was born May 22, 1946 in Painesville, Ohio to Harold and Eileen (O’Jala) Moser.

Craig was a graduate of Painesville Harvey High School. He served in the United States Army from 1968-1970. Craig received his bachelor’s degree from Ohio Wesleyan University where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He then attended The Ohio State University where he obtained his master’s and doctoral degrees and was named a Mershon Fellow. Craig was a Hiram College Professor of Economics from 1975 to the present. He served Hiram College as an Associate Dean, Director of Institutional Research, Department Chair, golf coach, and also led several student trips to England and Russia.

Prior to joining Hiram College, he taught at The Ohio State University and Franklin University. Craig was the Mayor of Garrettsville from 2003-present. He was a member of the Garrettsville Village Council from 1992-2003, also serving as Council President. Craig was a member of the Garfield Board of Education from 1980-1987, also serving as Board President. He was a guiding force in building Garrettsville’s Veteran’s Memorial and Boardwalk Project. Craig was also an active member of the Portage County Public Defender Board, the Portage County Board of Elections, and served as vice chairman and central committee person of the Portage County GOP. He also served on the North Central Accreditation Association. Craig went on the United States State Department Advisory trip to Kyrgyzstan. He also was a Sugarbush Junior Golf Instructor, coached Hot Stove League baseball, and was in the Sugarbush Tuesday Night Golf League.

He is survived by his wife Becky (Hill) whom he married on August 10, 1968; sons Christopher (Anna) of PA, and Eric (Maureen) of NY; grandchildren Katherine, Julia, Gregory, Abigail, Henry, Mary, and Paul; brother Scott (Rhonda) Moser of FL; sister-in-law Sara Schooler of OR, brother-in-law Scott (Darla) Hill of Painesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Craig was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may join the family for Craig’s memorial visitation on Sunday, July 29, 2012 from 2-5 P.M. at the Hiram College Kennedy Center, State Route 700 & 305, Hiram, OH 44234. His Celebration of Life Service will follow immediately at 5 P.M. Military honors to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Craig’s name to the James A. Garfield Local School District or to the Hiram College Economics Department. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231.
