DALE S. STRASSER

August 25, 1948 — November 15, 2013

The city of Brunswick lost a devoted resident and community advocate Tuesday. Former Mayor Dale Strasser died at home Tuesday morning after battling brain cancer for 20 months. He was 65.

Strasser was mayor from 2003-09, after serving 15 years on city council. It's because of his efforts that we have a full-time fire department and the city was named one of the top 10 places to raise a family. "One of the last things he did was campaign for the fire safety levy. He believed you are only as strong as your fire and safety services. On council and as mayor, Strasser pushed for the development of a town center on Ohio 303 near Interstate 71. He attended every community event and ribbon-cutting ceremony.

He loved Brunswick, touched a lot of people in the community with his magnetic personality and was always quick with a joke. Strasser co-founded the Northern Medina County Republican Club, was a past president of the Brunswick Jaycees and a member of the Brunswick Eagles. He was the son of Glenn and Rose (nee Marinchek) Strasser.

He was born on August 25, 1948 in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle who loved his family dearly. Dale was the former Mayor of Brunswick and a City Councilman. He worked at LTV Steel, Columbia Gas, ODOT in Ashland and a Bailiff for Probate Judge Jill Heck.

Dale will be dearly missed by his loving wife of over 43 years , Susan (nee Kudryk); his children, Stephen and Mike (Megan); granddaughter, Hailey; brother, Rollen (Sara); sisters, Glenda (Roger), Denise (Robert) and Darlene (Al); brother-in-law to Alex, Belinda, and John; nieces, Stacey, Kelly, Kristy, Amber, Amy, and Kim; nephews, Allen Jr., Rollen, and Roger.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of Medina County for the quality of care and their compassion that they gave to Dale in his last months. They would also like to thank all of the staff at Seidman Cancer Center. Special thanks to Dr. Nicholas Bambakidis, Dr. Lisa Rogers and Dr. Conor Delaney. Their expertise in their fields made Dale’s journey with cancer the best it could be under the circumstances.

Donations can be made in Dale’s honor to the Neurological Institute, Hanna House, 11100 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44106-5040, Attention: Rebecca Kahl. Goodbye Puppy Grandpa…"We Love You."
