Darryl A. Graves, 77, of Brunswick Hills passed away on August 1, 2024, with his loving family at his side. He was born on April 18, 1947, in Chicago, Illinois to the late Corbin and Rose (Prochaska) Graves.
Early in Darryl’s career he worked as a social studies teacher, as well as a football and wrestling coach. Darryl went on to be an administrator ranging from assistant principal all the way up to district superintendent. Even though his main career was in education he always had a joy and passion as a police officer and then later as a private investigator. Other notable jobs he had over the years were managing a Rock N’ Roll band called “The Intoxicators,” owned his own carpet cleaning business, was a multi time recipient of the salesman of the month at Medina World Cars, starred in a national commercial for Wegmans as well as other well distinguished roles as an actor.
He had many interests from being an avid reader and Cleveland sports fan, an athlete as a young man and was pursued by Kent State for baseball, camping, classic cars, amateur Civil War historian, casino lover, looked forward to participating in rib cook offs as well as always enjoying a vanilla ice cream. His passion for telling stories encapsulated his love for nostalgia from his life experiences; Berea being the epicenter of a large portion of those stories.
He was loved and respected by all and made friends easily. He was an eternal optimist which likely was derived from his steady confidence he always had throughout his lifetime. In his younger years others would have described him as a rebel; where later on in his life he may have been described as a calming force. Perhaps it was because of the delightful smell of his pipe.
Darryl was compassionate about being a family man, in his mind his most important job. He will be missed by his loving wife Susan, with whom he was blessed to share 54 years of marriage. His children, Brian (preceded in death), Brenda (Rick) Cunat, and Matthew; Grandchildren, Sophia, Julia, Calvin, Carmen, Colin. His brothers Dennis, Dean, David, as well his stepmother Eva. Last but not least his favorite lil friend and dog, “Buddy.”
