Our beloved Donald R. Waltenberger, 88, of Garrettsville, went to be with Jesus at 3:30 am, April 28th. He fought a long, hard battle with so much courage and strength, and is now forever with his Savior. Thank you for all your prayers and kind thoughts in recent days and especially now. We are so grateful that his suffering is over and that he is at peace.
He was born April 20, 1923 in Atwater to the late Charles M. and Pearl (Bodenstadt) Waltenberger. Don was a Field Service Engineer for Beckman Instruments-Smith Kline. He was a member of Gideons and attended the Garrettsville United Methodist Church. He was a volunteer at the Portage County Food Bank and worked the polls on election day for many years. He was a member of Atwater and Portage County Historical Societies and enjoyed bowling at Skyway Lanes. He was a true “tinkerer” and never met a stranger. He was a real “people person".
Don is survived by his wife, Dorothy “Jean” (Yost) whom he married June 24, 1950; sons, Jerry Lee (Annette) Waltenberger of Brimfield, William G. (Linda) Forney of Painesville, James (Robin) Waltenberger of Seville and Michael W. (PJ) Waltenberger of Decatur, IL; and daughter, Donna Jean Harper of Brimfield; 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
