Dorothy Jean Yost Forney Waltenberger was born in Marlboro, Ohio on September 5, 1921, the firstborn child of William Cullen Yost and Esther Henry Yost.
She attended Sunshine School in Akron and graduated from Atwater High School in 1940 where she served as Class Secretary. Following graduation, she attended Brown Business College in Akron. She married George Forney and he preceded her in death during his military service during WWII. In 1950, she married Donald Waltenberger and they were married for over 60 years.
A devout Christian, she served her Lord in many ways, most often through playing the piano and directing the choirs at their church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and a friend who was famous for her homemade chocolate pies and her love of animals, especially cats.
Dorothy is survived by her son, William (Linda) Forney of Painesville daughter, Donna Harper of Kent; son, Jerry (Annette) Waltenberger of Kent; son, James (Robin) of Seville and son, Michael (PJ) Waltenberger of Decatur, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brother, William Yost and son-in-law, Robert Harper. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 10 am on Monday, October 13, 2014 at the Atwater Congregational Church, 1237 St. Rte. 183, Atwater, Ohio 44201 with a celebration of Jean’s life at 11 am. Inurnment will be at Atwater Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jean’s name to the church.
