Douglas S. Lyons, 50, of Garrettsville, passed away on Saturday, August 16th in his home. He was born January 30th, 1964 in Akron, Ohio.
He was a Walsh University alumnus and owner of Lyons Market Jams & Jellies along with his wife Karen. Doug was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church. He was a Scoutmaster for Garrettsville Troop #4062, a Boy Scout council member, and enjoyed High Adventure trips with the boy scouts out west. Doug always made time for fun with his family. He very much enjoyed the simple things in life. Watching movies, taking walks on Headwaters Trail, playing foosball, going to car shows, golfing, and having “tiki parties” with his family on their patio were among Doug’s favorite things.
Like Doug, his family will always cherish vacations to Kiawah Island, South Carolina, and trips to Geneva on the Lake. Doug was a man of many talents and at heart, was a creator. Among these talents were photography, restoring his ’77 Monte Carlo, working and creating things for his home and the family business. In 1987 he was blessed with the gift of a new heart and again blessed in 1997 with a new kidney giving him the opportunity to spend time with his beloved family. He believed wholeheartedly that each day was a gift from God, which helped Doug live life to the fullest and never take anything for granted. His witty sense of humor kept all who knew him laughing, and his courage to never give up empowered those around him. Doug Lyons touched the lives of many people and will always be loved and remembered.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Karen (Leaf) Lyons whom he married April 4th, 1987; his parents Jerald and Joanne (Koski) Lyons of Stow; children, Courtney (Micah) Dowell of Canal Fulton, Porter, Jessica, and Harper Lyons, all of Garrettsville; a brother David (Laura) Lyons of Cincinnati, and in-laws, Doreen Leaf-Hund and Frank X. Hund.
