City:HiramVisitation Details:The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM on Friday, November 18, 2011 at the funeral home.Service Details:Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Garrettsville.Photo: Obituary:Edward Randa, a Hiram resident since 1933, passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2011. He was born January 10, 1917 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Frank and Anna (Rezac) Randa. Ed was a well-known agent with Farm Bureau and Nationwide Insurance, and still remembered by his many policyholders and their families 25 years after his retirement for his high level of personal service. As an active member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church since its formation, he served on the finance and chicken dinner committees, and was head of the Catholic Charities Annual Appeal for many years. Ed also was a board member for Family and Community Services. He served on the Hiram Township Zoning Board and was a member of the Hiram Historical Society. He was a Committeeman for the Democratic Party and a former judge for the Portage County Board of elections for many years. Ed enjoyed attending and participating in community activities. He also liked traveling, watching sports, playing cards, music and dancing. He was always willing to help someone in need. Also, his sense of humor was enjoyed by many. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Ann, of 67 years in 2008, Ed is survived by his daughters, Barbara (George) Hill of Hiram, OH and Kathleen Nuspl of Mechanicsburg, PA; grandchildren David Hill and Susan (Randy) Scheib, and great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Emily Scheib; two sisters-in-law, Nellie (Les) Coffield of Mt. Vernon, OH, and Helen Walkanovich of Parma, OH; nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2011 at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Garrettsville, OH 44231. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Hiram.
