Edwin W. Durschlag, 97, of Troy Township, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2014 at Burton Health Care Center in Burton, Ohio. Edwin was born August 3, 1917 in Willoughby, Ohio to Fredrick and Anna (Saurwein) Durschlag.
A graduate of Troy High School, Edwin attended Hiram College and was a graduate of Ohio State University. He was an accomplished carpenter and home contractor. Edwin was an avid Barbershop Quartet and chorus member for over 50 years. Edwin enjoyed gardening and basketball, both as a participant in his early years and as an enthusiastic fan in his later life. A member of St. Edward’s Church in Parkman, Ohio, he also belonged to the Knights of Columbus.
Edwin is survived by his wife of 18 years, Regina Sodo; his children, Susan (David) Corlett of Albany, NY, and Cynthia (Gregory) Batchelor of Riverview, FL; grandchildren, James (Susan) Corlett, Andrew Corlett, Ryan Batchelor and Patti (Tim) Marton; great-grandchildren, Colin and Abbie Corlett and Jovie Jane Marton; brother-in-law, Richard (Judy) Kluchar and numerous beloved nephews and nieces. He was well loved by his large circle of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Marita (Kluchar) Durschlag (4/6/1994); brothers, Paul and Robert; and sister, Katherine Williams.
A memorial service to celebrate Edwin’s life will be held at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, Ohio 44231 on Monday, Sept. 22, 2014 at 2:00 pm with Fr. John Burkley and Rev. David Corlett officiating. A private inurnment will take place at a later date.
