Elizabeth A. Gilbert, 62, of Akron, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022, at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Buffalo, New York on September 2, 1959, to the late John T. Masters and Rose Marie DeCollibus.
Elizabeth had an unparalleled, fearless tenacity for life, namely inspiring those around her with her boundless strength, quick wit, and ceaseless compassion. Equally fervent in both science and faith, she was a lifelong learner who treasured the ability to educate and advocate for others. Elizabeth was commendable in her pursuit to open hearts and embolden spirits through her writing, basketball coaching, animal rescuing, and sharing the unending joys of artistic expression with her purple hair, fantasy shirts, and love of drag culture.
Elizabeth will be profoundly missed by her loving child, Sarah Gilbert; husband, Harry Gilbert; niece, Abby Masters; brother, John Masters and numerous other friends and family members.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death her daughter, Emily Gilbert, and a multitude of pets Elizabeth rescued over her lifetime.
Elizabeth's care has been entrusted to Carlson Funeral Homes and Cremation Services 1642 Pearl Road, Brunswick, OH 44212. A celebration of Elizabeth's life will be held Saturday, October 1, 2022, at 12:00 pm at the Gilbert family home.
