“Today we lost a precious woman with a heart of gold.” Elizabeth “Betty” Pitsinger, 89, of Nelson passed away surrounded by her loving family on August 30, 2016. Betty was born on March 3, 1927 in Fort Valley, Georgia to Charles and Leone (Weaver) Allen where she was raised in The Rock, Georgia.
She was a member of the Life Church Assembly of God in Garrettsville. Betty was a founding member of the Drakesburg Assembly of God where she played the organ and was a board member and treasurer. She helped raise funds to help build and establish the Life Church. Betty enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Her time spent with her family was precious. Betty was a great neighbor who always had an open door for her friends and family. She always greeted those she loved with a smile and a kind word. Betty adopted many children as her own, often giving them rides or taking them to church with her.
Betty is survived by her sons, Herman (Amy) Pitsinger, Jr. of Newton Falls, Donald Pitsinger of Nelson and Mike (Debbie) Pitsinger of Nelson; daughter-in-law, Patty Pitsinger of Hiram; brother, Robert Allen of Georgia; sisters, Fay Watson of Georgia and Jeanette (E.T.) Adams of Georgia; grandchildren, Kevin and Matt Pitsinger, Heather Pinion, Chris Pitsinger, Samantha Ferry, Judson Pitsinger, Micaila Pitsinger, Jason Pitsinger and Kymm Reed; 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild with 1 on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herman Pitsinger, Sr. and son, Charles.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 2, 2016 from 11 AM to 1 PM at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, Ohio. Services to follow, 1 PM at the funeral home with Pastor Steve Craven officiating. Burial to be held at Drakesburg Cemetery in Freedom.
