Photo: Obituary: Elsie Faster Umbel 88, of Brunswick, went home with the Lord, and her late husband, Charles “Cliff” Umbel, on Friday, December 16, 2011 in Pearlview Rehab and Wellness, Brunswick. She was born in Cleveland, December 29, 1922, daughter of the late Henry and Elsie (Bell) Faster, of Brunswick. Elsie and Cliff raised Orchids, including many successful hybrids. Upon his death, July 1990, Elsie donated all Orchids to the Cleveland Zoo, so that others can enjoy. After 40 years, Elsie retired from Alcoa, working with them since graduating from West Technical High School, except two years with the US ARMY as a WAC. She was stationed at the Pentagon, as a Tech Sgt. at the same time her brother Bob was serving in the US Army in France during WWII. She was a member of the Brunswick United Methodist Church. Past president of the UMW, The Brunswick Area Historical Society, Red Hat Society and Medina County Women of the Military. Elsie loved to knit, crewel, do crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and bake especially Birthday, Shower and Wedding Cakes for family and friends. Survivors: sister, Lucille Widdifield of Brunswick, nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased siblings, Robert Faster, Mildred Buttolph and Cora Selig, and her Goldie. Friends may join the family for visitation on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 pm at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 1642 Pearl Road (½ mile South of Route 303), Brunswick. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home.
