Evelyn Wanek, (nee Semones) of Medina, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2017. Dear wife of Nate Wanek (deceased). Dear mother of Kathleen, Helen Cary (Dale), MaryAnn Helmerci (John) of Chicago, and John (Kimberly) of Columbus. Grandmother of Dale, Jr. (Lisa), Michael (Susan), Matthew, David, and Suzanne (Thomas). Great grandmother of Ryan, Kevin, Nicholas, Joseph, Jake, Adrian, and Roland. Evelyn is survived by her sister, Edith Roush. Her parents, Hattie and Howard Semones precede her in death along with brothers, William and Howard. She is also survived by many relatives and friends.
Evelyn trained as a cadet nurse for the U.S. Army. She delivered healthcare at the former Deaconess Hospital and BF Goodrich in Independence, Ohio. She loved to spend time with her family. Evelyn enjoyed sewing projects, especially counted cross stitch, and reading poetry brought her great joy. Pinochle was her card game and Nate was her favorite partner. She learned to play golf and could be found on the golf course with her husband. She had a very engaging personality which will be missed by all who knew her.
The family will receive friends and relatives from 1 to 4 pm on Sunday, October 8, 2017 at Carlson Funeral Home, 3477 Medina Rd., Medina, OH (corners of River Styx and Route 18) where the funeral service will be held on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow service at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Evelyn to Dr. Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Brooklyn, Ohio.
