Frederick Samsen Barstow, 79, of Garrettsville, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2010 at Regency Hospital in Ravenna in the company of his loving family. He was born May 15, 1931 in Kirtland, Ohio to the late Thomas Levi and Helen Rosine (Samsen) Barstow.
Frederick served in the U.S. Army and was a truck driver for Kuhnle Trucking in Newbury. He was a member of Mantua American Legion Post #193 , Garrettsville Eagles and an avid bowler. He enjoyed yard work, woodworking and singing karoke. He loved classic country music and was a drag race tuner and stock car mechanic. He most cherished spending time with his family and friends.
Frederick is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janet Louise (Wyatt) Barstow of Garrettsville; children, Barbara (Theodore) Hrobak of Garrettsville, Fred of Garrettsville, and Jody of Louisiana; brothers, Thomas (Judy) of Chardon and John “Jack” of Nelson; sisters, Julia (Gilbert) Gribble of New York and Betty Jo (George) Sherbondy of Chesterland; and grandchildren, Jennifer, Katie, Lacey, Aaron, Jacob and Benjamin Levi.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Donald; brother, Richard; and sisters, Catherine Schulz and Barbara Jean Barstow. Visitation will be TONIGHT, Thursday, December 2, 2010 from 6-8 PM at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231. A Memorial Service will follow at 8 PM with Rev. Fred Bell officiating. Military honors will be provided by Mantua Post #193 and Windham Post #674.
