Frederick “Fritz” John Kline, age 81, of Hinckley, Ohio, passed away on April 18, 2015. He was born on January 3, 1934, in New Castle, Pennsylvania to John and Stella (nee Cegelka) Kline.
Fritz retired as a Major in the United States Air Force. He was a Life member of many organizations: Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 385, American Legion Post 202, VFW Post 9520, Eagles Arie 2224, Medina Moose Lodge 647, U. S. Air Force National Pistol Team, Reserve Officer Association of America, N.R.A. of America, and Amateur Trap Shooting of America. Fritz was instrumental in building and dedicating the Medina County Vietnam Memorial. Over the years, Fritz was also involved in many community and church activities: volunteer firefighter, E.M.T., firehouse photographer, served on the Hinckley Board of Zoning Appeals, a member of the Hinckley Chamber of Commerce, and was active with Buzzard Day activities. He participated in the church golf league and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the 1953 West Tech High School Reunion Committee.
Fritz was an avid reader who loved working outdoors; afterwards relaxing in his man-cave (garage) with a cold beer. He owned a specialty gunsmithing business and acquired a special "handloading" skill. He enjoyed traveling to gun and airplane shows. Fritz was a complex person with many sides. He was a dedicated son to his parents whom he steadfastly cared for dearly in their final years. Others knew him as a practical joker with a raunchy and blue sense of humor; or as a very detailed perfectionist; or an opinionated curmudgeon with an affinity for hugging well-endowed women. Fritz was indeed one of a kind.
He will be missed by his children, Mary Beth (Ronald) Sands, Eric Kline; grandchildren, Joshua A. Perkins, Malea S. O’Connor; great-grandchildren, Jasmyn, Kaitlyn, and Shylyn; and his best friends, Phyllis Macaulay and Ray Hedges.
