George J. Gauthier, 85, of Garrettsville, joined his Lord and Saviour on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 5, 1936 in Woonsocket, Rhode Island to the late Romeo and Yvonne (nee Raymond) Gauthier.
A humble but brilliant scholar, George was a long time Professor of French at Hiram College, where he also served as the foreign language department chair. He raised his children in Hiram and then established a home in Garrettsville, where he lived for over 40 years. George was a member of St. Ambrose Church in Garrettsville and also a long term member of the Maison Francaise in northeastern Ohio, which supports the celebration of French culture in America.
George will be deeply missed by his loving children, Marcel Gauthier and Kirsten Gauthier-Newbury; grandchildren, Colette and Sophie Gauthier; his loving partner, Mary Furillo, and his large extended family, including his surviving sister, Cecilia Malo and brothers, Leo and Roger Gauthier.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Paul and Ray Gauthier, and his former wife, Ortrun Gauthier.
Please join the family for a Memorial Visitation for George on Thursday, August 25, 2022 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 26, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church 10692 Freedom St. Garrettsville. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH.
