Photo: Obituary: Georgia Monroe (nee Warner), age 87, died Sunday, June 16 at her home in Hiram surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was the only child of the late Catherine and Herbert Warner and the loving wife of the late Kress Monroe. She is survived by her children Dale (Mare) Monroe of Kent, OH, Carol (David) Myford of Chicago, IL, and Roger (Susan) Monroe of Hiram, OH, 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Georgia first came to Hiram with her parents on weekends in 1938 when her parents began planting what is now Monroe’s Orchard and Farm Market (formerly Pioneer Trail Orchard). Several years later the family moved to Hiram permanently, and she graduated from Hiram High School in 1943. She and Kress were married in 1945 and later moved into the house they built where they raised their three children. She assisted Kress in the operation of the orchard and continued to work with the family on the farm after Kress died in 1988. Georgia was a member of the Hiram Christian Church, the Hiram Research Club, and the Garrettsville Order of the Eastern Star. Georgia and Kress were active league bowlers at Skylane Bowling, hosted many card parties ‘on the hill’, and loved square dancing. She was a master pie baker, and her crusts were legendary. During the 70’s and 80’s she wintered with her husband, relatives, and friends in Eustis, FL. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231.The funeral will be held at Hiram Christian Church on Thursday, June 20, at 10:30 AM with internment following at Fairview Cemetery in Hiram, OH.
