Geraldine E. (Chapman) Stamm was born September 2, 1920 in Nelson Twp., OH to Frank B. and Alice M. (Fuller) Chapman. Geraldine was raised on the family farm and graduated from Nelson Twp. High School in 1938. Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Alice (Chapman) Hooverman and brothers, Rev. Lawrence R. Chapman and Rev. Frank B. Chapman. Prior to her marriage in 1942 to Elton H. Stamm (Deceased 1982), Geraldine worked at Hooverman’s Sheet Metal in Garrettsville and at the Ravenna Arsenal. In 1946, after the war, the Stamm family moved to Mantua Village where Geraldine was a life-long resident. Geraldine is survived by two of her three children, a daughter, Marjorie A. (Leonard M.) Burton of Leicester, NC; and a son, Joe A. (Leslie) Stamm of Orange Village, OH. Her youngest child, James R. Stamm died in 2009. She also enjoyed four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Geraldine was first elected Mantua Village Clerk-Treasurer in 1975 and faithfully served in that capacity for over 22 years, leaving office in 1998. Geraldine was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 193 in Mantua. Well-read and with an inquiring mind, Geraldine was also an accomplished seamstress, gardener and local and family historian. She maintained an adventuresome spirit throughout her life which included white-water rafting in her 60’s, riding a mule to the bottom of the Grand Canyon during her 70’s and flying in an antique biplane and horseback riding on each birthday into her 80’s. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mantua Village Police and the Fire & Rescue Departments. Friends may join the family for calling hours from 2-4 PM on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231. Geraldine will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery in Mantua.
