Gordon Kalina, 83, of Nelson Township, peacefully went to the Lord Sunday, October 30, 2016 surrounded by the love of his life, Ann Kalina. He was born on December 16, 1932 in East Cleveland, Ohio to Viola Pearl and Earl Kalina.
Gordon went to Shaw High School and graduated in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army starting in 1954 and was stationed in Germany as a Radio Operator & Cook. Gordon was honorably discharged in 1956 and it was then he decided to pursue psychology and sociology degrees at Kent State University. This is where he met Ann singing in the KSU choir. They were married in 1959 and recently celebrated their 57th Anniversary. They decided to settle in Nelson Township where he loved to garden and they raised their two children.
His love for singing was heard and known by many. Gordon sang in the Garrettsville United Methodist Choir and the Hiram Men’s Choir. He was more active in these groups once he retired from Chrysler in 1992 after 28 years of service. Gordon was known by many and loved by his family.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Ann; children Cindy Kalina (Cook), Eric Kalina and his 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 11-1 at Garrettsville United Methodist Church, 8223 Park Ave., Garrettsville, Ohio. Services to follow at 1:00 PM at the Church with Rev. Dr. Richard Thewlis officiating. Burial at Park Cemetery.
