Henrietta Broome Turner, 86, entered into eternal rest on April 21, 2015 at home, surrounded by family. Born February 6, 1929, she was 1 of 4 children born to Henry P. and Emma Toles Broome.
She graduated from Braceville School in 1947 and in 1957 she moved to Windham where she raised her family. Henrietta worked various jobs including May’s Tavern, and The Miracle Restaurant. She volunteered at the first Head Start program, and was a member of the “Smart Set Club” of Braceville. Henrietta was a member of the Church of Living God in Warren, OH.
Henrietta was known and loved by all. She never met a stranger, and if you didn’t know her, you would by the end of the conversation, earning her various nicknames like “Hank,” “Retta,” “Ma Retta,” and “Gramma Retta.”
Henrietta was preceded in death by her father, Henry; mother, Emma; brothers, Paul and Carl Broome; daughters, Marsha and Lynn Turner; granddaughter, Dawn Raines and three great-great-grandsons, Bently, Bryson, and Devin.
She leaves behind a sister, Willie Mae Walker of Rahway, New Jersey; daughters, Debra Pinson and Deltrina Turner, and son, Sanford Turner, all of Windham; four grandchildren, Denese Pinson of Florida, Jacinda Pinson and Bryant Turner, both of Windham; and Cedric Turner of Lakewood; six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are 11 AM TO 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231 where services will begin at 1 PM. Burial will follow at Windham Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions may be made in Henrietta's name in care of the funeral home to help defray expenses.
