Homer J. Ellison, 90 of Nelson, passed away on Friday, May 18, 2012 at his residence. He was born February 22, 1922 on Bug Ridge in Sutton, WV to Guy and Nettie Grace (Gillespie) Ellison.
He was employed for 30 years at Pennsylvania Sand & Glass (Silica Sand) and then retired from Master Builders in 1988. Homer was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Hiram, Ohio Ward. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved vegetable gardening and canning his produce. He loved traveling, teeing off golf balls in his back yard, and enjoyed sharing the gospel and telling stories from his past. He was a God-loving, hard-working, caring man whose influence will remain in the hearts of his family forever.
Homer is survived by his wife Edna Maxine (Burdette) Ellison the love of his life, whom he married, September 1, 1944; children Mildred Perrine of Windham, Curtis (Carmalee) Ellison of Hyram, Utah, Warren Ellison of Ravenna, Homer Ellison Jr. of Nelson, Eva Barney of Manti, Utah, Edward (Stella) Ellison of Mantua, and Jesse (Debbie) Ellison of Garrettsville; Barbara (Tim) Wells of Southington,; siblings Mary Sue Howes of Windham, Arthur Lee (Betty) Ellison of Nelson, Burnell (Linda) Ellison of Nelson, Betty Leu Carroll of Garrettsville, 22 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and his best friend, Junior Stalnaker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Joanne Celia Ellison, siblings, Juanita Carpenter McCumbers, Garnet “Connie” Stoner, Catherine Gay Frame, Junior Ray, Allie Mae Carroll.
Calling hours are 5-8 PM on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St. Garrettsville, OH 44231. Funeral Services will be at 10 AM on Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Hiram, Ohio Ward, 6208 Pioneer Trail, Hiram, OH 44234 with Bishop Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow at Harrington Cemetery, Nelson, Ohio.
