J. Emery Chilton

d. July 2, 2012

J. Emery Chilton, 84, was called to his reward by Jesus on June 29, 2012. He was born in Denver, CO and graduated from the Colorado School of Mines. He attended the University of California at Berkeley where he earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry. In July of 1952 he married Mildred Lester. She was the love of his life and he exemplified the role of Christian husband and father. His hobbies included shooting, flying, rock collecting and hiking in his beloved Colorado. He was proud to have his children and grandchildren share his interests. His enthusiasm for life was defined by his healthy lifestyle and support for pro-life organizations. Although he lived in Pittsburgh he enjoyed visiting Medina regularly and always looked forward to worshipping at Cornerstone Chapel. Dr. Chilton worked for the U.S. Bureau of Mines where he performed research to improve the health and safety of workers in underground mines. Everyone who knew Emery knew that he was a kind, gentle and peaceful man who always believed at death the physical body returns to dust, and the soul of the believer is welcomed into heaven. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Mildred Chilton. He is survived by his brother, Carroll Chilton of Madison, WI, daughter Amy (Scott) Perrine nee Chilton of Medina, OH, son David (Wendy) Chilton of Orlando, FL, and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held in Pittsburgh at a later date. Carlson Funeral Home - 3477 Medina Road Medina, Ohio handled arrangements.
