James E. Guffey, 84, of Kent passed away peacefully on January 19, 2011 at his home. James was born October 10, 1926 in Cleveland OH to the late James and Mildred (Johnson) Guffey.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a radioman 3/C aboard the U.S.S. Blue Ridge. He married Jean (Thomas) Guffey on June 5, 1948. James retired from Duct Fabricators in Cleveland, OH in 1989 after 24 1/2 years of service. He was an active member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 33 for 60 years. James was a member of Boy Scouts of Greater Cleveland Council troop 126 and Scoutmaster of Troop 655 in Highland Heights. He and his (late) wife Jean loved camping with their daschund Heidi and they were VIP's for several seasons at Punderson, Salt Fork, and Hocking Hills State Parks.
James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Jean, and his brother David (Barbara) of Madison, OH.
He is survived by his five sons, Robert (Diane) of Evergreen, CO, Larry (Diane) of Mentor, OH, Bill ( Mary Beth) of Warren, OH, Dale of Kent, OH, and Michael (Anne) of Stow, OH, sisters Peggy Hanna, Marilyn Ashton, and Lynn (Don) Erickson, and brothers Lee Guffey, Richard (Linda) Guffey, and Tom (Jackie) Guffey, 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Private burial will be at Harrington Cemetery in Nelson Township. A memorial service will be held on January 29, 2011 at 1 P.M. at the Silver Center, Silver Oaks Place, 500 Silver Oaks Dr., Kent, OH. 44240.
