Jean Marie Baach (nee Bertha), age 85, originally from Cleveland, but resided most of her life in Parma, passed away October 19, 2018, at HMC Hospice of Medina. She was born on August 16, 1933, in Cleveland, OH, to the late Michael and Marie (nee Simones) Bertha. She graduated with high honors from John Marshall High School in 1951. Jean was a star basketball player and dedicated gym leader.
Jean enjoyed art, music, theater, travel, cooking and trying new restaurants. She was most in her element when surrounded by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved nothing more than following them in their various pursuits. She was always available to support them in any way and loved to offer a helping hand to anyone in need. She wanted nothing more than to see those around her happy.
She began a long drafting career when she was hired as the first female draftsperson at Bell Aircraft, which later became NASA. She put her career on hold to raise four children. Her work path then resumed as a classroom aid with the Parma City Schools and then returned to the drafting world by taking on roles at Sunar Hauserman, Ceilcote Co., and eventually retiring from the Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District.
Jean married Gilbert Baach (deceased March 25, 2008) on August 22, 1953. She will be dearly missed by their four children Michael (Jamie), Sandy (Bob) Sheehy, Chris Dunning and Pam Baach; seven grandchildren Michael, Steven, Katy, Jamie, Emily, Lisa and Megan; seven great-grandchildren McKenzie, Dylan, Trent, Caden, Connor, Stevie and Fletcher and also by her loving sister Lois (Bertha) Ellibee.
Services will be held for Jean at Divinity Lutheran Church, 11877 Blossom Ave, Parma Heights, OH 44130, on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 3:00pm. Jean's family will greet friends one hour prior to her service.
