Joan E. Rog age 72, resident of Medina, passed away on Wednesday, December 3, 2014. She was born on August 24, 1942 in Akron, Ohio to William and Julia (nee Recicar) Boxler.
Joan and Joseph Rog were married 52 years. She was a dedicated Research and Education Volunteer with the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo for 15 years. She received her BS in Biology from Baldwin Wallace College in 1995. Her interests included the research of bear behavior and she was a member and contributor to; International Bear Assoc., Animals Asia, David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, Borneo Sun Bear Conservation Ctr. World Wildlife Federation, and Polar Bears International. She was also an active supporter of Chris Morgan’s Wildlife Media and the Bear Trek film project. Joan was a world traveler to Africa, The Galapagos Islands, Asia and Europe. Her great love in life besides her family was nature, wildlife and especially bears and fly fishing. She also loved to read, listen to music and enjoyed her family and friends.
Joan will be dearly missed by her loving husband Joseph; sons Joe (Mimi) of Fairfield CT, Jeff (Diane) of Strongsville, OH; daughters Jocelyn Rog of Hillard, OH, Jacquie Rog of Upper Arlington, OH,; her beloved grandchildren Connor, Tate, A.J. and Sophia also her brothers Dave of Franklin, IN and Bill of Windham, OH. Everyone she met felt her passion, conviction, spirit and love. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, December 6, 2014 from 7 to 9 PM at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 3477 Medina Road (corner of River Styx and Rt. 18), Medina, Ohio. Visitation also will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2014 from 1 to 3 PM. Funeral Service will begin at 3 PM. A reception will follow at Rustic Hills Country Club, Medina, OH. Private family burial will be Monday, December 8, 2014 in Spring Grove Cemetery.
