John W. McCarty, 75 of Windham Twp. passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Robinson Memorial Hospital. He was born June 9, 1938 in Lost Creek, West Virginia to Leonard Woodrow and Virginia Pearl (Regester) McCarty.
John served in the U.S. Army from ’56 to ’58 and was a final repairman at General Motors. He was a 32nd Degree Mason at Garrettsville Masonic Lodge #0246. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. John loved singing, playing guitar, playing cards and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy (Anderson) McCarty, whom he married Dec. 7, 1971; Children, Richard (Cheryl) McCarty, Roger McCarty, and Tammy Smith all of WV and Monica (George) Maur of Ravenna; sister, Barbara (John) Morrison of Ohio; brother Jack (Helen) McCarty and half-brother, Leonard (Terry) McCarty all of WV; numerous step-children, many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling hours are 2-5 PM on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231, with Masonic Services following at 5 PM. Funeral Services are at 11 A.M. on Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Robert Morrison officiating. Burial will follow at Windham Township Cemetery with military honors.
