John J. Olson John J. Olson, 80, of Garrettsville, passed away Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at his residence in the presence of his loving family. He was born October 5, 1930 to Michael and Anna (Kolat) Olson in Fredericktown, Pennsylvania.
John served in the United States Air Force and was a Korean War veteran and was a foreman at Republic Steel for over 30 years. He was a parishioner of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Windham. John was a member of the Windham Knights of Columbus #4433 and the Windham American Legion #674. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, and spending time with his beloved family and friends and his loved pets Teddy and Molly.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Anna L. (Bradley); sons John (Norma), Joseph (Chris), and James (Pam Battaglini) all of Windham; daughters Patricia (Gene) Duffy of Texas, Monica (Gary) Miller of Garrettsville, Anna (Kevin) Malone of Windham, and Marian (Carl) Angus of Windham; brothers Mike (Janet) of Lisbon, Tony (Carol) of Streetsboro, and Andy (Karen) of Windham; sisters Kay Deeb of Pennsylvania, and Mary Budney and Theresa DelRosa of Cleveland; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Josephine, and son-in-law John Royer.
Friends may join the family for Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, May 14, 2011, at 12 P.M. at St. Michael Catholic Church in Windham. Please meet at church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to St. Michael’s Church, or to the Portage County Animal Protective League.
