Josef Anton Hoffmann of Medina, Ohio entered into rest on March 31, 2020. He is survived by his loving wife Christina (Friedrich) Hoffmann and beloved children: Maria Davison of Florida, Joseph Hoffmann of Illinois, Elisabeth Hoffmann of Washington, DC, Peter Hoffmann of Medina, Robert Hoffmann of Idaho, Walter (Tonia) Hoffmann of Akron and Irene (Christopher) Zurowski of Medina. He was the proud grandfather of Barbara and Matthew Davison, Karl Hoffmann, Timothy Singh, Oscar Hoffmann, Crystal (Timothy) Robinson, Haley and Alexis Hoffmann, Kayla, Alana, and Caleb Zurowski. Josef was also blessed with four great-grandchildren.
Son of the late Josef and Agnes Hoffmann, Josef was born on March 19, 1930 in Windhorst (Nova Topola), Bosnia, Yugoslavia. The family immigrated to the US in 1952. He was one of nine children and is survived by siblings Maria (Jacob) Friedrich, Johann Hoffmann, and Veronica Gatto. He is predeceased by his sisters Christina (Bozo) Jankovich, Johanna (William) Hetzel and his brother Friedrich (Manda) Hoffmann.
Josef served with the US Army during the Korean War and was on the Army’s boxing team. A proud veteran, her enjoyed spending time at the VFW hall and marching in the parades.
On September 1, 1956, he was united in marriage to Christina in Cleveland. An outgoing soul, Josef loved to chat with friends and neighbors, and he was a big kidder as well. He enjoyed bowling, gardening, and dining.
He was a marble and tile setter with the Bricklayers and Allied Crafts, Local 5, Cleveland union. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and ushered at Holy Martyrs Church in Medina. A founding member of the Medina Township Volunteer Fire Department, he served 20 years and was elected Medina Township Trustee for 12 years.
