Joseph Cilibraise, age 93, of Valley City, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2022. He was born July 13, 1928, in Detroit, MI to the late Joseph and Josephine (Territo) Cilibraise.
He grew up in inner city Detroit during the Great Depression. Joe met his first wife, Joanne through his sister and they married after he served in the United States Army during The Korean War. They were married for 35 years and had 4 children together. Joanne died unexpectedly just as Joe was retiring from Norton Company Abrasives where he worked for over 30 years.
Joe loved to travel. During a trip to Europe, he met his second wife, Dolores through mutual friends while at a dinner in Switzerland. Together, they owned a travel agency which allowed them many adventures around the world by land and sea. Joe was an active member of the Brunswick American Legion Post 234 where he held several positions over the years. He volunteered his time doing income tax filings for senior citizens and low income families. In his early earlier years, he was a Scoutmaster and a Little League Umpire.
His hobbies included playing cards with family and friends. However, Joe's passion was woodworking. He made everything from furniture and wall decor to toys and cradles for his grandchildren.
