Joseph A. Surratt, age 72, of Brunswick, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018 at the Cleveland Clinic. He was born on January 21, 1946 in Sabine, West Virginia, to the late Noel and Grace (nee Daniels) Surratt.
He was a graduate of Trap Hill High School in Raleigh County, where he participated in football, basketball and track. Joe served in the US Army as a medic.
Joe was employed as a stove man in the Blast Furnace Dept. at LTV Steel. He enjoyed fishing, loved college sports, spending time with his grandchildren and watching Western Movies.
He will be dearly missed by his wife of 50 years, Phyllis (nee Walker); children, Lora (Curt) Ruiz, Dreama (Tim) Cole and Rebecca (Jim) Sansonette; siblings, Lloyd (Sheila) Surratt, Janet Surratt, Carol Surratt, Nola Acord, Joan Stover; grandchildren, Brittany (Justin) Miller, Austin Ruiz, Mia Ruiz, Bill (Lisa) Visnic, Tommy Teklinsky, Jenna Sansonette and Jared Sansonette; and great-grandchildren, Madison Miller and Billy Visnic; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert; sister, Lulabelle; his brothers in law, George Stover and Friedman Acord.
Friends may gather on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 10:15 a.m. for a funeral service at Ohio Western Reserve Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, Ohio 44273 where military honors will be conducted.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in his memory be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements were entrusted to Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 1642 Pearl Rd., Brunswick, Ohio 44212.
