JUNE C. CRAWFORD

June C. Crawford, age 87, of Nelson, OH passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014. June was born on August 28, 1926 in Cleveland, OH to Ethel and Peter Boenig.

She graduated from Cleveland’s East High and worked as a chemical analyst at Ferro Industries. She was so vital to the lab that when she left, she had to be replaced by two men with PhD’s. In 1953, she was introduced at a party to Donald Crawford. The two hit it off immediately and were married October 17 of the same year. They moved to Nelson in 1961 and raised their three children there. She worked at Menough’s Clothing in Garrettsville. She was an avid Indians fan and never missed watching and scoring a game. She was also an OSU football fan and had travelled with friends to games all around the Big 10. She loved to travel and had visited Cuba on one of her earlier vacations. The Crawford’s Memorial Day picnics were legendary and friends loved to visit them at their farm. June kept in touch with everyone she met and as a result had friends all over the world.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel & Peter Boenig, sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Leonard Zimmer, and half-sister, Hattie Bundy.

She is survived by her husband, Donald; children, Donald Paul (Linda Hunt) Crawford of Garrettsville, Patricia (James) Maynard of Sunrise, FL, and John (Amy) Crawford of Garrettsville; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Maynard and Christian Crawford; nephews, Leonard, Steven and Mitchell Zimmer, and nieces, June Zimmer and Marlene Bundy.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Friday, July 18 at 12:00 pm at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231, with Pastor Daniel Caruso officiating. Calling hours will be held Thursday, July 17 from 6:00-8:00 pm and for one hour prior to the service on Friday. Burial will be at Park Cemetery in Garrettsville.
