KATHARINE CARLSON

Katharine Carlson (nee Colaric), our matriarch, passed away November 23, 2015 at her residence. As she always stated, “It’s been a slice.” She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Earl in 2000. With seven children, twenty-one grandchildren, and twenty-one great grandchildren, she delighted in confidential listening. She and Earl came to Brunswick in 1961 to open a family funeral home in a small community of neighborly people, which they both truly enjoyed. Prior to opening in Brunswick, Carlson Funeral Home had its first funeral home in Sherwood, Ohio. The family also opened funeral homes in Garrettsville and Medina. She was a secretary to Navy admirals in San Diego during World War II and to the President of American Greetings in Cleveland, Ohio, before giving her full attention to a growing community. Katharine was a grateful woman.

Katharine is survived by her loving children, Dr. Michael (Karen nee, Chapman), Kathleen Bolan, Patrick (Patricia nee, Turnick), Mary (Tim) Marcovy, Neil – deceased,(Jacqueline nee, Van Gieson), Carleen (Rick Hamrick), and Sean – deceased, (Lani nee, Burk, deceased); dearest grandchildren, Kelly (Kerry) Gump, Bradley (Cynthia) Carlson, Ryan (Amanda) Carlson, Justin (Christine) Carlson, Alicia (Preston) Braxton, Cameron Carlson, Trevor Carlson, Vanessa Carlson, Meaghann (Scott) Lee, Aaron (Naomi) Marcovy, Grady Carlson, Brittany (Anthony Brown, fiancée) Carlson, Paige Carlson, Vaughn Earl Hamrick-Carlson, Regan Carlson and Aunt Lisa and the entire Crawford family; step grandchildren, Robert Turnick, Stephen (Shannon) Turnick, Nicholas and Nena Gamboa, and Kayla and Emily Hamrick; beloved great grandchildren, Jake, Sam, Adelaide, Dorothy, Finley, Caoilainn, Reid, Emery, Thea, Jack, Daniel, Robert III, Zachary, Collin, Kyle, Martina, Stephen, Riley, Bailey, Kindle, and Alexzander; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers, George, Frank, Pete, and Paul Colaric.

Friends may join the family for visitation Sunday, November 29, 2015 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 1642 Pearl Road, (1/2 mile south of Route 303) Brunswick, OH 44212. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 30, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 929 Pearl Rd, Brunswick, OH 44212. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery in Brunswick.
