KATHERINE J. SMITH

Katherine (“Kathy”) J. Smith, 86, passed away on February 28, 2018, in her home in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by family members and her faithful companion, her dog Rusty. She was born on June 19, 1931, in Shalersville, Ohio, to the late Jake and Kate Roosa.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley; son, Kevin; and brothers: Robert; Leslie (wife, Opal); and Frank (wife, Janet) Roosa.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Knowles; son, Sgt. James A. Smith (Claudia, daughter-in-law); son, David Smith (Lori, daughter-in-law); grandchildren: Sean Cannon, Angela Wood, Kevin Smith, Jessica Smith, Heather Smith, Lauren Smith, Hannah Smith, Dawn Castellano; six great- grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and their children; and many good friends.

Kathy will be remembered for her dazzling smile, wit, great personality, kindness, and her love for her family (and Rusty). A few days before she passed away, Kathy said, “I’m grateful, I’ve lived a good life.”
Kathy attended the First Congregational Church for many years prior to her and Stan moving west. She enjoyed spoiling Rusty; spending time with her grandchildren, talking regularly to family, friends and neighbors; being on Facebook; and binge-watching movies/shows on Netflix.

There will be a Graveside Service on August 4th, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Park Cemetery on 8588 Center St. Garrettsville, Ohio. Immediately following the service, there will be a “Celebration of Life” get-together at Nelson Community Center, 11642 Windham Parkman rd., Garrettsville Ohio.
