KATHY ANN KORAN

Kathy Koran (nee Rice), 74, of Hinckley, Ohio, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024. She was born January 20, 1950, to the late Ray and Millie Rice.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, William Koran; son, Sean (Jennifer) Koran; and siblings, Linda Doubrava and Bob (Ilona) Rice.

Kathy graduated from Garfield Heights High School in 1968 and proceeded to earn degrees from Bowling Green State University and Baldwin-Wallace University. Kathy taught third grade and then kindergarten in the Fairview Park schools for 28 years, being named Farview Park’s “Teacher of the Year” in 2005. It was said that “no student ever wanted to disappoint Mrs. Koran.”

After retiring from teaching, Kathy spent countless hours volunteering for Medina County Project Learn and the Medina County Historical Society. She was also a devoted caregiver to her mother Millie in her later years. Kathy also became affectionally known by many as “The Cookie Lady,” as she became an avid baker who would share her delicious cookies with all she knew. She also operated “Kathy’s Kennel,” caring for Bailey, Lexi, Esme, Jake, Molly, Sinatra and especially Shannon. Kathy loved spending time with her family and friends. She is loved by many and will be dearly missed. 

Please join the family for a Visitation on Sunday, July 14, 2024, from 2:00 P.M. until the time of the funeral service at 4:30 P.M. at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 3477 Medina Road (corner of Rte 18 & River Styx Rd.), Medina, Ohio 44256.
