Kenneth William Chaloupek, age 79, passed away Sunday, Sept 15, in Middleburg Heights. Born July 16, 1940, in Cleveland, he was the son of the late William Chaloupek and Henrietta Kozak Chaloupek. He was preceded in death by his one sibling, Ruth Furr, of Sneads Ferry, NC.
Family includes wife, Patricia, of Medina; sons, David (Marianne) Chaloupek, of Maple Heights and Jeffrey, of Arlington, VA; daughter, Sara (James) Plumhoff of Montrose, CO; and grandchildren, Erin, Brittany, and Emily Chaloupek, and Willem and Danner Plumhoff.
A 30-year resident of Medina, Ken was a graduate of Ohio University (Bachelor of Science Chemical Engineering) and the University of Toledo (Master of Business Administration). He had a long career in the chemical plastics manufacturing business, retiring from Seaman Corporation of Wooster, OH, as Vice President of Engineering and Information Technology. His career took him and his family to Toledo, OH two times; New Philadelphia, OH, Iowa City, IA, Keokuk, IA, and a six-year stint as manager of a plastics company in Mexico City, Mexico. He held two patents related to his field, and he continued to consult during his retirement.
He was involved in communities along the way: project chair, board of directors and president of Toledo Jaycees; scoutmaster of an international troop of Scouts in Mexico City; board of directors and president of his homeowners’ association in Medina.
Tennis was one of his life-long passions; he also enjoyed golf, cycling, sailing and boardsailing. He had a keen interest in woodworking and “figuring things out ”, reading, gourmet groups, wine tasting groups and spending time with his family.
With his wife, Pat, of 57 years, he enjoyed travel throughout the U.S. and the world. Places they journeyed included Africa, Australia, Canada, China, Ecuador, much of Europe, Hawaii, New Zealand and most of the Mexican states. His favorite vacations included a ten-day bicycle tour of Provence, France, and a two-week safari on the plains of Africa.
Ken enjoyed his children and grandchildren and looked forward to supporting their activities – football, swimming, track, tennis, ice skating, volleyball, basketball or lacrosse. They all liked to spend time with their “Papa Ken”.
Friends may join the family for visitation on Thursday, September 26, 2019, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Carlson Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 3477 Medina Road, Medina, OH 44256. A Funeral Service will be held for Kenneth at 11 AM on Friday, September 27, 2019. There will be a visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, Medina.
