Kenneth Melvin Houser of Seville, Ohio passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday, January 13, 2024. He was born June 12, 1936 in Old Brooklyn, Ohio to the late Melvin and Ruth (Hoehn) Houser.
After growing up on the family farm in Brunswick, Ohio and graduating from Brunswick High School in 1953 he went to work briefly for J&L Steel in Cleveland. Shortly after he was hired by GTE in Medina and started digging ditches and climbing telephone poles for installations/repairs. He worked his way up the ladder and ended up retiring twice from GTE. He wrapped up his working life after another 7 years with Telxon Corporation in Fairlawn. The stories he had and the friends he made were many! Wherever we went with him we would run into someone who knew and loved him.
On August 3, 1963 he married Lois Carol Cline enjoying 58 years together before her passing in 2021. They spent all those years raising 2 daughters, building and finishing homes, taking fun vacations with friends and family, volunteering or lending a helping hand whenever possible. He always had a garden, growing the most amazing veggies! One year he grew two pumpkins that were nearly a hundred pounds each! My sister and I were pictured on the front page of the Medina Gazette with them. Great memories!
Ken was preceded in death by his parents and wife. He is survived by devoted daughters Michelle Fontana (Pete) and Jennifer Houser and sisters, Loretta Moffatt (Bill) and Audrey Harding (John) and many nieces and nephews.
Special thank you to the staff at Brookdale Wooster and Harmony Hospice Care for helping him have a comfortable and happy last few months.
There are no services planned at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to Medina County ASPCA.
