Larry F. Lietzow, 79, of Mantua, Ohio passed away peacefully at his home on November 27 due to congestive heart failure. There will be no service or calling hours. Instead, a celebration of life will be held on the property he loved so much next summer.
Larry was born in Mantua on April 22, 1943. He graduated from Crestwood High School in 1962.
Larry worked for Hurst Pontiac as a young man. In 1974, he partnered with Stan Kraft and started an auto repair business. In 1976, he bought an auto parts business, which he managed for sixteen years and sold in 1992. Larry was an excellent mechanic, machinist, welder, and entrepreneur.
Larry had many hobbies over the years including golf, antique guns, and fixing up his family farm. He began restoring rare antique tractors in 2000 and soon started a successful business making reproduction tractor parts; the business has since been taken over by Mark Pfouts. Larry especially enjoyed restoring Allis Chalmers tractors. Sunday mornings were spent in his shop with many friends who referred to it as the "Church of Tractors."
Larry loved all animals and nursed many back to health after various traumas and afflictions. He rescued every stray he ever saw and either found a good home for them or kept them himself.
Larry is survived by his wife, Gloria Lietzow, two grandchildren, and his stepson, Vance (Suzanne) Bryson, whom he raised from the age of ten. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Christine.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Portage County APL at PO Box 927, Ravenna, OH 44266. The family wishes to thank Crossroads Hospice, Barky Zoller (whom Larry considered a son), and Tara Winland for their compassionate care and support during Larry's illness. Care for Larry was entrusted to Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231.
