LAVERNE LYNN JOHNS

LaVerne Lynn Mapes Johns, 81, of Garrettsville, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2023. She was born February 21, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Clell and Ann (nee Lohf) Mapes.

She was resident of Mantua since 1948 and was a graduate of the class of 1959 at Crestwood High School, where she had enjoyed being a majorette. LaVerne enjoyed life and many vacations with family. She worked for many years as a secretary for Prudential Insurance. After her first retirement, she enjoyed working and training people at Sea World of Aurora. Later in life she spent winters in Florida and summers in Canada with her significant other, Doug Hurd.

LaVerne will be deeply missed by her loving children, Brian (Kelly) Johns and Jacquelyn Ann Johns; grandchildren, Sabrina Hickman, Lyndsey, and Lilly Johns; loving significant other, Doug Hurd; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Albert T. "Sonny" Johns, with whom she was blessed to share 49 years of marriage, and son Randy Thomas Johns.

In keeping with Laverne's wishes, the family will have a private graveside service at a later date. Care for LaVerne was entrusted to Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231.
