Lawrence R. “Larry” Sterpka, Sr. of Windham, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2011 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 29, 1925 in Tipperary, PA to the late George and Elizabeth (Stasek) Sterpka.
Larry served in the U.S. Navy in WWII and was a service manager. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Windham and Knights of Columbus, Windham Council #4433. He was a former Windham councilman and enjoyed bowling, fishing, and golfing (he had two holes-in-one!). Larry was a true animal lover.
Larry is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary (Kralik) Sterpka of Windham; sons, Lawrence “Larry” (Betty Ann) of Brimfield, Tom (Dorinda) of Mantua and Martin (Lori) of Windham; daughters, Mary Sterpka Delaney of Ravenna, Anne (Tim) McManus of Pickerington, Chris (Tom) Puhalsky of Windham and Irene (Kenny) Kropp of Windham; brother, Rudy (Jo) of Parma; and sister, Betty Kralik of Hiram; grandchildren, Nikki, Todd, Tom, Sarah, Erin, Morgan, Carrie, Christie, Matt, Nelly, Corey, Seth, Karrie, Brian, Branden, Jessica, Jacob and Jennifer and 19 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George, and sisters, Mary, Margaret, Irene and Patricia.
Calling hours are 4-8 PM on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, OH 44231. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday at 11 AM at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Windham with Fr. Leo Wehrlin and Fr. James Lang officiating. Burial will follow at Windham Township Cemetery.
