Leon Lee Chalker, 92, of Southington passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015 with his devoted family by his side. He was a graduate of Chalker High School in June, 1940, and was married to the love of his life, Ruth Pauline (Fiest) Chalker on October 5th, 1946.
Leon was self- employed starting with dairy farming, making hay and building fences. Then he began the lumber business, running sawmills, and selling lumber to Republic Steel and also Sheet Tube manufacturing. Then he took up auctioneering, starting with horse sales in 1966, followed by the machinery auction. He enjoyed working daily with his grandsons. It was his pride and joy to see what he had built entering its 49th year in business. Throughout his 68 years of marriage he spent over 40 years traveling the USA with his wife Ruth. He made many friends throughout his life and will be terribly missed by all.
Surviving are his daughters Marilyn S. (John) Schalcht of Farmington, Ohio, Martha J. (Jimmie) Bowser of Southington, Ohio, and Margory L. (Joe) Miller of Hadley, Pennsylvania. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Arlene (Scott) Mollohan, Andrew Hope, Robert Hope, Kurtis (Jennifer) Lichty, Keith (LaRae) Lichty, Karie (William) Doan, Deanna Litz, Jason (Ashley) Miranda, Jessica Miranda, and Brad (Beth) Miller, as well as 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Inez Chalker; his sisters, Arlene Chalker and Eula (Frank) Elston; and grandson, Matthew Bowser.
Calling hours are 4-8 PM on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Mallory-DeHaven-Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8382 Center St., Garrettsville, Ohio 44231. Private family services and burial will be held at a later date.
