Lois Marie Garvey Janos passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 4th, 2024. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 6, 1927, she married Otto Paul Janos, and raised four children: Paul, Patricia, James, and Ellen, who gave her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Lois was the driver behind the wheel of this close-knit family - literally, when it came to exploring New England, the Rocky Mountain West, what was to become Silicon Valley and, with great regularity, the seasides in Florida. She hated being on boats or in the air, but as befits the wife of a Ford Motor Company electrician, she was content to drive. Later in life, she acquired a love of trains, and became adept at ticketing on the Amtrak website. She loved bright colors and striking shoelaces. She was the magnet and manager for extended family celebrations well into her 90s. Year after year, she organized cabin camps in various state parks, transmitting her love of the outdoors to two succeeding generations. She honored her marriage vows in spirit as well as letter during the challenging years of her husband’s decline and death with Parkinson’s. She survived that loss by a year and half, much of which was a courageous and inspiring struggle against increasing physical limitations.
There will be a graveside service at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery where she will be inurned with her loving husband.
Care for Lois was entrusted to Carlson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Medina, OH.
